Biography
James Levens was born about 1830 in Ireland.1,2 He emigrated from Ireland and arrived in Philadelphia prior to October 1855.3 James Levens and Margaret McElhenny were married on 8 Oct 1855 at Church of the Messiah in Port Richmond, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.4
He and his family moved to the coal region of Schuylkill and Columbia counties a few years later. I have not found them yet in the 1860 census, but his son, James, Jr. was baptized in Ashland, Schuylkill County, in 1858.5 James lived in Centralia, Columbia, Pennsylvania, United States on 1 Jun 1870 and on 1 Jun 1880.1,2 He was listed as a miner in the 1860 census and as a worker at a coal breaker in the 1870 census.1,2
He died in 1884 in Centralia, Columbia, Pennsylvania, United States and was buried in Ashland, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, United States.3

Catharine Emminger was born on 23 Apr 1834 inWürttemberg.2,3,8 According to the 1900 census, she immigrated in 1852 and may have arrived on 31 May 1852 on the Charles Crooker from Le Havre.4,8
Catharine Emminger and Nicholas Conrad were married on 3 Oct 1853 at Saint Michael’s and Zion Church in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.1 She lived in Philadelphia for the rest of her life.5,6 On 1 Jun 1880 and 1 Jun 1900 she was living at 1729 N. 4th Street.7,8

Biography
Nicholas Conrad was born about 1824 in Bavaria, Germany. He was also known as Nicolaus Conrad. He immigrated before 3 May 1853, declared his intent to become a citizen on 12 Jul 1855, and was naturalized in Philadelphia on 3 May 1858.5 After immigrating, he lived in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States for the rest of his life.
Nicholas Conrad and Catharina Emminger were married on 3 Oct 1853 at Saint Michael’s and Zion Church in Philadelphia.4 On 1 Jun 1860 he was a box maker1 and a barrel dealer on 1 Jun 1870.2 On his death certificate in 1874 his occupation was reported as cooper.3
Nicholas died on 4 Dec 1874 at the age of 50 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.3 He lived at 1729 N. 4th Street at the time.3 He was buried on 7 Dec 1874 at Glenwood Cemetery in Philadelphia.3
