James Monroe Ebert, 78, retired pharmacist, of 2412 Woodvale avenue, Mount Penn, Reading, a native of Gordon, Schuylkill County, and former proprietor of a store in Tamaqua, died at his home.
Mr. Ebert, who was graduated in 1903 from the Philadephia College of Pharmacy, retired four years ago after 53 years in the profession.
From 1929 until the time of his retirement, he had been employed at the W.B. Boyer Inc., branch store in Reading. Before then, he worked in Gordon, Hazleton, Girardcille and at the former Dietrich's Drug Store, Reading.
He was the son of George W. and Elizabeth Levans Ebert. He was a member of Holy Cross Memorial Methodist Church, and a life member of the Berks County Pharmaceutical Association.
His wife, the former Annie E. Smith, died on July 6.
Surviving are two sons: George R., with whom he last resided, and William L., of Hyde Park; a daughter, Jean M., of Temple; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

George R. Ebert, 67, of 2412 Woodvale Ave., Mount Penn, died Sunday morning in St. Joseph's Hospital, Reading. He was admitted Thursday. Mr. Ebert was born in Girardville, a sone of the late James M. and Annie E. Smith Ebert. He was a custodian for the American Bank before retiring in 1974. Surviving are his widow, the former Catherine Bady; a son James C., Lincoln Park; a daughter, Mrs. Georgine Neff, RD1 Temple; eight grandchildren; a brother William L. of Riverview Park and a sister Jean M. Ebert, Temple. Services will be held Tuesday morning from the J.E. Lutz Jr. Funeral Home, Reading, with interment in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
